Choosing a doctor is one of the most critical decisions you need to make once you have decided to take steps to explore your options of male reproductive or sexual surgery. Very few surgeons in Canada offer microsurgical vasectomy reversal so it may seem like a daunting task to ascertain what to look for, especially with all of the information available to you on the Internet. I have devoted this page to assist you. Here you will find some suggestions as to what to look for in a surgeon, together with my own medical biography.

Crucial deciding factors should include; academic history, board-certification and hospital affiliations. Along with the surgeon’s certifications and credentials, it is equally important to find a doctor who you feel you can trust. Trust and competency is paramount to your feeling comfortable that you are making the best decision possible.

My name is Darby James Cassidy and I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I completed my medical studies at the University of Manitoba in 2003 where I was honoured with being voted Valedictorian.

In 2007, while in General Surgery Residency at the University of Calgary, I was honoured once again by receiving the Canadian Association of General Surgeons, Stevens Norvell Award for top score on the national in-training exam.

After completing my Surgery Residency in Calgary, I went on to complete my Urology Residency at the University of Alberta in 2009. In my final year at U of A, I was the Chief Resident and scored in the 100th percentile in North America on my final year in –training exam. I then received Board Certification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2009.

The University of Toronto was the next stop for Fellowship sub-specialty training in Male Reproductive and Sexual Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. Here I was able to train with the pioneers of male reproductive surgery in North America and learned and mastered the Mini-Incision Vasectomy Reversal technique created at the University of Toronto.

With my passion for the specialty of Male Reproductive and Sexual Medicine, including full service medical and surgical management for male factor infertility and male sexual dysfunction and in particular my interest in mini-incision microscopic vasectomy reversals, I currently reside in Prince George and have my practice at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia.

Most recently, I authored the “Mini-Incision Vasectomy Reversal” chapter of an upcoming textbook on Male Infertility.
